How to find your MPRN

2 min read

Your Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) is a unique 11-digit code which identifies a property’s connection to the electricity grid. You can find your MPRN on your bills, from your electricity supplier, or via ESB Networks.

Find it on your electricity bill

If you have an electricity bill for that property then you can find the MPRN on the top right hand corner of the bills. If you use paperless billing you should be able to find it in the same place in any statements sent by email.

Ask your electricity provider

If the electricity account for the property is in your name, then you can contact your supplier directly to ask them for the MPRN. If you have an online account with your supplier, then you should also be able to look it up there.

Ask your landlord or previous owner

The MPRN is attached to the property, not to the user, so if you have moved to a new property you might not know yours yet. If you are renting then you should contact the landlord, who should have it from previous bills. If you’re buying a new house then you can ask the previous owner to check their own bills.

It’s not on the electricity meter

You will not find the MPRN printed anywhere on your electricity meter. The codes that you can find on the front of the meter are the Meter RN and Serial Number. These are different from the MPRN but can be used to help get it from the ESB.

Ask ESB Networks

If you have the Meter RN and Serial Number you can contact the ESB Networks for their assistance by contacting the National Customer Contact Centre on 1800 372 757. They should be able to provide the MPRN with this information.

Use your ESB Networks online account

If you set up an ESB Networks online account then you can also use the Meter RN and Serial Number to find your MPRN via the Find My MPRN service.

Why you need your MPRN

The MPRN is important since it is used to identify your property precisely for a number of services such as switching electricity providers. Without this, providers won’t know which property to switch.

You won’t be able to progress a switch unless you know your MPRN.
