How to find your GPRN

3 min read

Your Gas Point Reference Number (GPRN) is a unique seven-digit number that identifies a property’s connection to the gas network. You will need it for any home supplied by mains gas and there are four quick ways to find it.

Fastest ways to find it

  1. In the account information on your gas bill
  2. From your gas supplier or online account
  3. Ask your landlord or previous owner
  4. Contact Gas Networks Ireland

Look on your gas bill

The easiest way to find your GPRN is on your most recent gas bill. In most cases it will be located in the top right corner alongside your account information. However, the location can vary by supplier. Your GPRN will always be clearly labelled so it should be easy to spot.

Ask your supplier

If you have your account details, you can contact your supplier’s customer service line directly to get your GPRN. If you have an online account with them, you will also be able to find it there.

Check with your landlord or previous owner

If you are renting, you can ask your landlord for your GPRN. If you’ve recently moved house, you can ask the previous owner to check an old bill. You can also ask the estate agent or solicitor to get this information before you move in.

Ask Gas Networks Ireland

If you can’t find your GPRN another way, then you can contact Gas Networks Ireland on 1800 464 464. When you call you will need the following:

  • Your name
  • The property’s address
  • The property’s Eircode
  • The meter serial number

Why you need your GPRN

Your GPRN is essential for switching your gas or dual fuel supplier. They use it to identify where your property is connected to the gas network.

It is the main identifier suppliers use to confirm what property they are switching, set up new accounts, and process meter readings.

FAQs

Can I switch without my GPRN?

No, if you don’t have your Gas Point Reference Number you won’t be able to switch. A supplier won’t accept the request.

Do I keep my GPRN when I move?

No, the GPRN is attached to the property so you get a new number if you move homes.

Is a GPRN always seven digits?

Yes, if the number has fewer than seven digits, add one or more zeros until it reaches seven, e.g. 0012345.

What if I don’t get mains gas?

Bottled LPG and oil heating customers do not need a GPRN as they are not getting fuel from the mains gas network.
