How much notice does my supplier give before a price increase?

Your supplier has to tell you at least 30 days before a price change takes effect, with the new rates and the date they start.

Does a price increase affect my fixed-rate plan?

Not until the fixed term ends, unless your contract says otherwise. After that you move onto the supplier’s current rates.

Can I switch supplier if my prices go up?

Yes, at any time. If you’re still in a contract, an exit fee may apply, whether or not your prices are going up. We show any exit fee in your results.

Why does one price change show several percentages?

Each rate moves separately: a supplier can raise the day rate by one amount and the night rate by another, and urban and rural customers can see different figures.

Where does this information come from?

From the rates each supplier publishes. We record every change as it’s announced and compare it with the rate it replaces.

Should I switch if my supplier has put up its prices?

It’s a good time to check. A comparison takes a couple of minutes and shows whether you’d save.

Every time an Irish supplier changes its electricity prices, it’s recorded here: the old rate, the new rate, the date it takes effect and the plans it applies to. Suppliers tell their customers before a price change, so changes appear here as soon as they’re announced, before they reach your bill.
